SARA CHELOU

Sara Chelou is an active witness to the beginnings of street art in France.

It was in the 1990s, in Paris, that she began painting outside walls, as a committed artist from the underground scene, in industrial cathedrals and libertarian wastelands.

Her journey is both artistic and experimental, questioning the role of the artist in the city, but also their place in society.

As one of the first artistic groups considered experimental at the time, she then participated in the creation of the first urban art events and the first European festivals on the same subject (such as in Budapest, Hungary), then took her art to disused industrial sites before setting up in various Parisian studios.

In her approach to painting in the city, she plays with references from American pop culture, including Keith Haring, Warhol, and Lichtenstein, and from graffiti culture from all over and beyond. Sara Chelou also brings a committed perspective to our time. Her urban poetry accompanies us, and her messages make us slow down!

From street art to contemporary art, via pop art, she is an artist who contributes to the current artistic revival.

Recognized today on the French and international art scene through numerous exhibitions and, above all, by international collectors, her paintings know no boundaries.
