Miss Tic

Miss Tic, a poet and visual artist, was born on February 20, 1956, in Montmartre. Her famous stencils have adorned the walls of the capital for several decades. She passed away on May 22, 2022, in Paris.

The work of the artist Miss Tic, initially considered a minor and illegal form, has since entered the collections of major institutions: the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Contemporary Art Funds of Paris, and a retrospective in Singapore with the support of the French Embassy.

"La Miss" wanders everywhere, an eternal feminine playing with gazes and thoughts.

Miss Tic was a free artist. An emblematic figure of street art in France.

With the help of stencils, she tirelessly painted sexy and glamorous women in black, accompanied by striking aphorisms, in a delightfully mischievous act.

Drawing inspiration from advertising methods and figures, she fixed a certain image of femininity. Her approach is both pictorial and poetic. In their time, she recalled surrealists like Magritte or poster artists such as Villeglé.

With a false naivety, Miss Tic worked on her line: her characters, like her words, offer a reading full of humor and playfulness, even cynicism, depending on the interpretation.

She delighted in the art of détournement, as in her work "Muses et Hommes" where she reinterpreted the great figures from the canvases of Goya, Rembrandt, Caravaggio, among others, to question the male/female relationship. With her, images and words always signify something other than what they seem. Each of her works is a commitment, an ethic, a signature—that of an iconic and mysterious woman.
