NICOLAS ALLEY
Nicolas Ruelle: "After studying Literature and Arts, I first expressed myself through music, working as a composer, notably for French television. A natural extension of this experience, painting allowed me to give form to the musical visions I carried within me. I then found the ideal place to rhythm space and express a personal lyrical breath through movement. It was in 2008 that I began to be exhibited in galleries, both in France and abroad.
In an initial stage of my work, I start with sculpted material. With energetic and spontaneous gestures, I seek to bring light from the material. The paint is applied with a knife and spatula. The landscape motifs tend towards abstraction.
In a second, more meditative phase, I use brushes to soften the forms and diffuse the light. In search of a bridge between nature and intimacy, I seek to free myself from the strict representation of reality to get to the essence and make the canvas that secret place where we can share our memories and emotions.
My canvases are thus landscapes of shared meditation, with nature and its elements, and the search for freedom as key themes."
