PETER KLASEN

Peter Klasen is a major figure in European contemporary art, recognized for his powerful visual world inspired by urban, industrial, and technological environments. Born in Lübeck, Germany, in 1935, he moved to France in the late 1950s and developed a unique body of work that questions the place of the individual in a society dominated by machines, infrastructures, and control systems.
Associated with the Narrative Figuration movement, Peter Klasen developed an immediately identifiable artistic language from the 1960s onwards. His works feature elements from the modern industrial landscape: metal doors, fences, meters, signage, car bodies, tanks, and security devices.
