NICOLAS JESBAC

As soon as he finished high school, Nicolas Jesbac wavered between two different paths: STAPS (Science and Techniques of Physical and Sports Activities), to continue his passion for badminton, and Fine Arts. Refusing to choose, he enrolled at the École des Arts de la Sorbonne, where he earned a research master's degree in Fine Arts and Contemporary Creation, while simultaneously obtaining a diploma as a sports educator. He explored various techniques and media during his first year, but it was in the middle of his second year that he discovered his passion for pixel art. In 2017, he combined his interest in pixels with painting and produced his first canvases.

Thanks to the balance of this dual path, Nicolas Jesbac found the discipline and patience necessary to produce his works. By blending the aesthetics of pixel art with painting, Nicolas Jesbac creates bridges between the virtual world of digital and the tangible world of painting. The fusion of these two links of the current world allows him to question the relationship to reality and images. His portraits adopt the codes of a pixelated image, comprising a set of colored squares, while including volume, intended to exacerbate the materiality of painting.

In a contemporary version of pointillism, the artist brings to life representations that take on meaning through the overall appreciation of the touches of color. It is through these that the reading and interpretation of the work take place. Through the patient and disciplined gesture inherent in pixel art in painting, Nicolas Jesbac reconnects with slowness and contemplation, while going against the overproduction of images whose realism claims to defy reality.
