MARCELLO CID SAINT JEAN

This Argentinian artist studied for many years at the Cuyo University of Plastic Arts before settling in Paris. He now lives and works in the Paris region.

Marcello Cid Saint Jean has chosen abstract painting to reduce the canvas to a simple surface. He can thus develop his own definition of space, which he does not separate from the value of time. Indeed, the artist's act is inscribed in time, a duration materialized by the work of art. This ephemeral moment of creation, according to the artist, raises the question of chance and intuition. This is why Marcello CID SAINT-JEAN does not anticipate the composition of his canvases and lets the emotion of the present moment guide his brush.

Color, in his painting, supports the form. It describes masses structuring the canvas and reinforces the opposition of forms through contrasts. In places, the material is engraved with stylized motifs, such as ladders, columns, and silhouettes. Figuration is then reduced to a simple anecdotal appearance in the abstract space of the canvas.

Marcello CID SAINT-JEAN's painting is interesting for the reflection it brings on the relationship of space to time, but above all, it appeals to the viewer's eye, who will find different forms; such as animals, characters, or houses.

Thanks to the rhythms of lines and forms, Marcello creates a real visual experience and establishes a dialogue with the observer.
