JEROME POUMES

JEROME POUMES

A trained painter, Jérôme Poumès began practicing the art of traditional coal forging and arc welding on steel about ten years ago. He creates abstract and figurative acrylics with a palette knife on canvas, in a very "lively" and dynamic style, combining material, movement, and force.
It is this quest for power and movement, characteristic of his work on canvas, that gradually led him towards sculpture. The desire to move from the 2D world to the 3D world is undoubtedly the result of a lifelong fascination with the impact of light on an object, thus creating volume and movement.

The choice of steel as a medium of expression came very naturally to him because it is the expenditure of energy required to work with metal through forging and welding techniques that truly excites him. It is the act of bringing all these pieces to life through this process that makes each sculpture unique. He moves from figurative to abstract according to his inspirations and approaches all subjects with the same passion for this difficult-to-tame material, so powerful yet also so sensual and delicate.

Regarding his steel-only sculptures, he works exclusively with recycled materials, in an eco-responsible dynamic.
Knowing that he is giving a second life to this metal through his own creations is even more rewarding and satisfying.
As part of various creative experiments aimed at bringing steel to life with other materials, he also creates mixed media pieces with wood, plaster, or resin.

There are no boundaries between the various art forms he practices. Thus, his figurative sculptures, his abstract pieces, and his canvases feed into each other in a continuous cycle of research and creative energies, constantly renewed by a perpetually alert and fundamentally curious mind.

The universe of painter and sculptor Jérôme Poumès proves to be particularly energetic and powerful, with contrasting compositions, rich in nuances, and strong volumes.
An "AKOUN" rated artist, Jérôme Poumès regularly exhibits in France and abroad, such as at the Sarria International Exhibition in Spain since 2011, and in Tokyo since 2013.
After obtaining a baccalaureate with a major in Philosophy and Art History in Bayonne, he joined the famous Penninghen school of interior architecture, communication, and artistic direction in Paris. He completed his student cycle at the equally famous Académie Charpentier.
Jérôme Poumès devotes himself to pictorial expression in various forms and techniques, particularly practicing acrylic on canvas with a palette knife.
From figurative to abstract, including a certain form of expressionism, the painting of the academically trained artist has taken several directions.
Exploring the impact of light on objects
Today, his pictorial creations, like his sculptures, draw their essence from his own experiences and most intimate emotions. Jérôme Poumès remains above all an "artist-researcher," an explorer always seeking unexplored creative territories.
