ARANCHA TEJEDOR

This Spanish artist has travel in her blood, an urge to wander.

She began her studies at the School of Fine Arts in Madrid, then specialized in painting and engraving - chalcography - in Seville. She then underwent graphic arts training in Perpignan and from there went to Montpellier where she completed a master's degree in languages. It's clear then that Arancha TEJEDOR is an atypical artist who needs to absorb and see a lot to fuel her painting.

Arancha TEJEDOR approaches her canvases as travel sketches, with the ambition of bearing witness. In her works, she records images illustrating human activity, daily gestures, and places of life. The drawing, like memory, fades, overlays another, and ultimately recalls a film reel unfolding before our eyes.

Arancha TEJEDOR's technique shows the influence of her engraving training. The support for her works: wood leaves its imprint on the painting. Arancha TEJEDOR also doesn't hesitate to scrape the color, painting in negative. The support and technique have the effect of giving the painting a vibrant character. Evoking memories once again, the material fades, disappears, and we become spectators of this disappearance.

Arancha TEJEDOR is therefore an artist who asserts her position as a witness in society. Her brush carves the trace of the present into the wood and imprints into time what nonetheless remains ephemeral.
